Indian acid attack victims ban together in heartwarming fashion shoot

Rupa — who dropped her surname after she disowned her father for supporting her stepmother after the woman attacked her with acid — teamed up with a charity campaign Stop Acid Attacks. She decided to fight for justice for herself and other victims.
United, the victims who had been living in shame have come forward.
An acid attack survivor who used to hide her face has bravelyposed for a fashion photo shoot with her friends and fellow victims featuring her own clothing designs.
The photo session focused on five young Indian acid attack victims who were photographed by Rahul Saharan in Rupa's line called Rupa Designs.
Rupa, Rita, Sonam, Laxmi and Chanchal have all been the victims of horrendous acid attacks, which are very common in India.
They have spent years hiding their faces in shame. But united, they bravely came forward.
“I always wanted to be a designer but after the attack there was a pause in my life. I was so insecure and embarrassed by my scars, I used to cover my face with a scarf,” said Rupa, 22. “I always hung onto my dream but I never knew that one day it would be possible and I would be launching my own label.”
The heinous crimes against women are done by mostly misogynist perpetrators who want to leave their victims feeling forever inferior.
But five young women in the fashion photos have shown their attackers they will no longer hide their faces, and that they deserve to live a life of dignity.
